The big FINALE!

Hello Everyone!

Sorry it has taken so long to write an update about our project. But like the title of this blog, this will be the last entry. So what has the team been up to? We created an image! We were able to show that using our system we can make an image and be able to detect muscle movement!

This image shows two pieces of chicken, one is 1.5 mm and the other is 2 mm which is the thickness and depth of the chicken in the forearmTDS chicken

 

We also met the inspiration behind this whole project, Dr. Paul Gammel. He has been using Time Delay Spectrometry for acoustics. We have been using this signaling technique for imaging.

Lastly, we presented our project to the VSE Symposium on April 18th, 2016. We were selected as one of two groups to present on April 28th at 3:00pm in front of the Engineering Advisory board at George Mason University and awarded outstanding project award which came with a $550 cash prize.

Brrrrrr!!!! February Update

Man, it has been a rough start for the ZECK team on the project. With all the snow days and rain, its been a miracle that we were able to start experimenting with our design project.

So what has the ZECK team been up to?

We have been doing different experiments that play around with the focal depth and spatial resolution of the transducer.

Also since one of our goals is to miniaturize the system we have bought certain components in a smaller scale. Hopefully when it’s 12696659_10205195890210037_81939149_oall connected, we will see even better results  from last year!

 

 

 

Soon it will be spring break and then it will be presentations and papers and conferences and just presenting our work to different people.

This semester is going to fly by! Soon we will be at the finish line! That’s all for the ZECK team. See you in the next update.

Update 4

Hello Everyone,

For the month of December, the team is proud to say that our prototype works! We gave a presentation to the department last Friday and we are very happy with the feedback and the results that we got.

 

amplitude_beforemmode_ppt this is the data that you see in the video. The high amplitudes mean the person arm muscles were relaxed, low amplitude means the arm was flexed.

From the data above, we were able to create m-mode images. M mode also known as motion mode is A diagnostic ultrasound presentation of the temporal changes  where the depth of echo-producing waves is displayed along the x-axis which is time and the y-axis, the motion of the interfaces from the transducer.

This is an m-mode image of when the person was flexing and relaxing their arm.

Update 3

November update!

The ZECK team did their midterm presentation. In this presentation we proposed our idea of what our project is going to be and the prototype we will be building for the end of the semester.  In terms of the prototype, we have characterized all our major components and we are about done with the prototype. Update 1

For the month of September, the team has been reading up on material about time delay spectrometry, hilbert transform, ultrasound, transducers, etc. We recently gave a 5 minute presentation to the class about a description of our project.
